How to publish a book on Amazon
“Can anyone tell me how to publish my book on Amazon?”
It’s a question I see in online groups over and over and over.
They’re asking about converting their manuscript to an ebook that can be read on a Kindle, not referring to Amazon’s print-on-demand service, CreateSpace.
Uploading to Amazon through Kindle Direct Publishing — KDP — can be a daunting process, even if you’re tech savvy. What if you make a mistake? And if you do, can do you fix it?
When it’s something as important as your precious manuscript, you might not be comfortable taking a leap of faith and just doing it.
Step-by-step instructions
That’s why when Mike Fishbein showed me his epic, step-by-step post on how to do it, I offered to share it with you here. He walks you through the process with clear instructions and illustrations that make it foolproof. Whether you’re wondering where to go to get started, how to select categories, or how to upload your cover, he’s got it covered.
With his guidance, yes, you can just do it!

Hi Sandra, was just beginning to publish several “get published” tutorials. Was going to use Fivrr but now realize this is easie-peasie, thanks to Mike’s instructions. Thanks for publishing it. You continue to amaze me with the quality of the assistance that you offer writers.
I’m glad the timing worked for you, Molli! And thanks for making my day!
Sandy
Thank you for sharing, Sandra. Your willingness to help others find their way through the maze of self publishing is greatly appreciated. I was naïve when I self published my first two books through what turned out to be “vanity publishers” and have a lot of wounds. The quality of the final products was good and book reviews have been great, but my pain from the experiences lingers. Although I love writing, I felt as though I should quit writing. Again, I thank you for your help.
You’re so welcome, Tom. I hope the pain has faded and that you’ve started writing again. It can be very healing!
Sandy
Sandra,
This is a fine resource, thank you.
I know you have shared a comparison of Amazon and IngramSpark. Have you thoughts using BookBaby?
Hey Kerry, the CreateSpace/IngramSpark post was directed at printed books. I think that BookBaby is better known for ebooks, right?
Sandy
Dear Sandy
Thanks for this helpful post. Do you have any thoughts on how to bundle a printed book (through CreateSpace) and a video (also through them)? After that is done, I’d like to do a similar thing through Kindle.
Many thanks for your valuable help.
Kind regards
Karen
That’s a great question, Karen. Are you talking about bundling printed books that would be sold via Amazon?
