National Reading Group Month. National Library Week. National Tell a Story Day.

These are just three of the 183 literary occasions happening in 2026 that you’ll find in this Build Book Buzz 2026 Literary Calendar. With so many holidays and occasions for writers, authors, and book lovers — three more than last year — it’s the most comprehensive listing of book- and writing-related special days, weeks, and months available.

It doesn’t matter what you write. You’ll find something in these occasions spanning 12 months that you can connect to your book or that speaks more personally to you and your interests.

Maybe you simply want to support literacy, libraries, and bookstores. We’ve got you covered with all of them!

How to use your 2026 literary calendar

Whatโ€™s the best way to use these special dates? Here are ideas.

Step 1.

Start by reviewing the list in the 2026 literary calendar below and identifying whatโ€™s relevant or interesting to you.

Do you think reading in the bathtub is the perfect stress reliever? Use February 9, Read in the Bathtub Day, to spread the word.

Are you on a mission to promote and protect libraries? Search the list for “library,” “libraries,” and “librarians,” then create a campaign around the occasions.

Are you a poet? Have a little fun with National Bad Poetry Day on August 18.

Step 2.

Add your favorite occasions and dates to your calendar, then set a reminder a few days in advance so you have time to plan and create the content for your special day, week, or month.

Step 3.

Decide how youโ€™ll recognize the occasion. Here are a few ideas:

  • Leverage video’s popularity by creating a short video for YouTube and social media. For example, for Harry Potter Book Day on October 12, share why you love a specific Harry Potter book or talk about how the series brought reading to the non-readers in your family or circle.
  • Use the special day, week, or month for advocacy. Libraries are under attack; there are many occasions in this calendar that will allow you to support them. Think book-banning is ridiculous? Write and place an op-ed (opinion essay) about Banned Book Week starting October 4.
  • Build a themed newsletter issue around an occasion that has special meaning for you.
  • Create an event-related image to share on social media. I created one for Library Shelfie Day on January 28 (below). Notice that I branded it with “Build Book Buzz.” You’ll want to brand yours, too.
